Army Visit April 2008

Major Lamb and Sgt McGinley gave a talk to all Y10 students about Human Rights and the role of the Army in modern Britain. Career opportunities were discussed and the students took part in a lively question and answer session. The responses given by the Officers were frank and honest.


 

Radio Stoke broadcast with Year 10

During this half term twelve year 10 students have been working in collaboration with radio Stoke to produce a sound cast which will be aired on the local and national radio. It will also be available in podcast format from the BBC website. Many thanks for the continous support from Dave Hamer.

Youngsters in Kidsgrove are enjoying the pleasant surroundings of their newly refurbished youth club.The youth club at Maryhill High School, in Kidsgrove, has been transformed thanks to a £35,000 grant from Staffordshire County Council's youth capital fund.

The money has helped to pay for a range of facilities including laptop computers, a seated chill-out area, coffee making facilities and a brand new pool table.

Year 10 Media students entered the Guardian Newsday competition during March. The national competition is run by the Guardian newspaper and gives students across the country the chance to make their own newspaper in just a day. Our team of 12 journalists researched, interviewed, edited and produced - and made the deadline for the end of the day.

Police are using new ideas to keep residents up-to-date with the latest community safety information.PC Phil Smart, the neighbourhood beat officer in Kidsgrove, has developed a special DVD that is played on a loop at the town's Tesco.
 

Cannock Chase March 2008

12 students with Mr Roberts and Ms Masters took part in a mountain bike expedition on Cannock Chase. The first session was to assess all riders confidence around cones and obstacles. Thankfully everyone passed the test! ...
 

How do you revise?

On Monday 17th March 2008 well over 170 students and their parents attended the "How do you revise?" evening. The evaluations of the evening showed that it was a huge success and will support all of the work that we do in school with the students themselves.
 

Drama production

A local drama production group came into school to work with year 9 students. The production outlined the trigger which started the First World War; conditions on the Western Front, effects of war on families at home, attitudes and treatment of soldiers with shell shock etc.

 

Fact Finding at Staffs University

Thanks to Mrs Jones for arranging a "fact finding" trip to Staffs University campus on Thursday 10th April. The trip was primarily aimed at the "Aim Higher" cohort, but we were allowed to bring along a few extra students and so 41 Y11's went on a tour of the university site based at College Road in Stoke.
