Welcome to Maryhill High Media Arts College Drama department.

Welcome to the Drama department, run smoothly by Mr Nicklin and Mr Chapman. They will do anything to help student to succeed and achieve their best. Student will learn not only Drama skills but the skills that are needed for everyday life, like teamwork, co-operation and much more. Most of all students can make friends that they will keep for life. In years 7-9 students are most likely to attend the equivalent of 1 lesson per week. Student will develop confidence, communication, and co-operation skills.

The GCSE Drama course is 70% coursework, meaning the portfolio that each student will construct. The remaining 30% is the end performance, in front of an examiner, which takes place by the end of year 11.

There is also Drama B-Tec where students focus on the backstage parts such as making sets and using lighting. Students also develop skills on making sets and how to design, operate, and use lights.

The Drama department has recently staged a fashion show in which pupils and staff dressed as celebrities and cliques. The Drama department have also helped primary school children to understand the different types of things that you can do in a Drama lesson using different techniques, in preparation in them coming up to year 7 in September.

The room in which Drama takes place is being transformed into a Drama haven so there are no distractions to interrupt the creative vibes that produce the A/B grades at
GCSE. With help from year 9 Stundents, they have created a mural showing heaven and hell.

“Taking drama has been one of the best decision I have ever made I have made friends that I thought that I’d never make, or ever talk to, if you want to change your life in social skills or just like acting this is the prefect subject for you.” (A. Stephenson)
