Community Arts Projects in Kidsgrove – Update Oct 2010

Maryhill High Sixth Form art exhibited at Kidsgrove train station.

After the success of the gifted and talented Art project, where Maryhill students produced large scale paintings for the interior of the main waiting room and ticket office at Kidsgrove train station, the Art department was contacted again in May by Mrs Faye Lambert the Community Project Officer for Central Trains.

Ms Christou, Head of Art, recalls how excited Mrs Lambert was about the refurbishment and re-opening of the second platform waiting room at Kidsgrove station, planned for September.
She confirmed that while the space was not very large, there was enough room for some artwork to be displayed in glass cabinets and requested Maryhill students use the theme of the North Staffs train route to generate the art.

Seven of our Year 13 students rose to the challenge and produced four stunning graphic posters for display.
On Wednesday 13th October the students visited the station to help to display their work.

Well done to: Greg Cooper, Chelsea Brough, Rebecca Vigrass, Elizabeth Hackney, Hannah Mountford, Hayley Rawlingson and Lisa Stephenson(not pictured) whose stunning art work can now be viewed in Kidsgrove train station’s new waiting room.

Community Arts Projects in Kidsgrove

A range of projects based around Kidsgrove Town Hall are presently ongoing involving several year groups from Maryhill. Read below to find out more.

Years 10 GCSE Art students and year 12 AS Photo students have been involved in completing 2 separate projects to generate art and photography work for display at Kidsgrove Town Hall.
Both projects focus on images of Kidsgrove locations such as The Victoria Hall, Mow Cop Castle, Harecastle Tunnel etc
Year 10 have produced 2 very large murals paintings in acrylic on canvas; their colour palette was inspired by the contemporary German artist Jan Neuffer, famous for his images of Berlin.
Ms Christou, Head of Art

Councillors have visited the AS group before Christmas to explained their ideas to students.
They will need to re-visit to look at progress, taking place after half term.
Then we can hopefully select images that are suitable and plan in detail the exhibition at town hall.
