Andrew Rosser
Having completed my secondary education with 3 ‘A’ levels in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics I married young (3 weeks before my 20th birthday). Since then my wife and I have brought up, or are still bringing up, seven children. Five of them have been through Maryhill High School; the last of these will be entering the sixth form in September. The other two children are still in their primary school.
The first 13 years of my career were as an analytical chemist. At first this was working in the water industry, later I moved into animal feed and became the quality manager for a large independent integrated poultry business. I was also the IT manager and wrote computer systems that integrated the feed mill production processes into the quality system.
For the last 14 years I have been working as a computer programmer, and for the past 6 years as the company’s finance director, after buying into the company. In addition to my full time work we have a family business, which is a shop in Newcastle, and I run a small management company dealing with small business support and some IT systems. I am the current president of the Newcastle Chamber of Trade and Enterprise and a board member of the Newcastle Town Centre Partnership.
I was a school governor in my children’s first primary school, for about 6 years. Soon after moving to Stoke my eldest daughter started at Maryhill and I became a governor and I am just completing my 13th year here.
