My name is Hortense Lowndes and I was born in 1929 and have been married since 1959. I was educated at Underwood College in Hanley where I learnt shorthand, typing, business etc. I worked in Hanley as a telegraphist and I was also secretary to the Head postmaster at Stoke Head Office. I then worked at Kidsgrove District Council as a Secretary in various Departments. I then moved to Congleton Borough Council Planning Department where I was in charge of a clerical team dealing with Planning and Building Regulations Applications. I was then elected to be Borough Councillor for Newcastle Borough Council (Liberal Democrats). Now I spend my time teaching Yoga to adults in Newcastle and Alsager.
