Attendance
Regular school attendance is an important part of giving your child the best possible start in life. Talking to your child and support staff at Maryhill could help to solve any difficulties you have in getting your child to go to school. We also offer a full range of support which you can access through school.
- If your child’s attendance is 100% they are more likely to achieve or exceed their target minimum grade (TMG).
- If your child’s attendance falls below 90% they are likely to achieve 1 grade lower than their TMG
- If your child’s attendance falls below 80% they are likely to achieve 2 grades lower than their TMG
Regular school attendance – why it is so important
Going to school regularly is important to your child’s future. For example, children who miss school frequently can fall behind with their work and do less well in exams. Holidays within school time can have a direct effect of progress. When your child is not in school they may lack confidence when they return by losing contact with social groups and friends.
Good attendance shows potential employers that your child is reliable. Research suggests that children who attend school regularly could also be at less risk of getting involved in antisocial behaviour or crime.
Good attendance is rewarded in school. We have termly prize draw’s, annual trips and an end of year draw which includes gifts donated from local businesses and items purchased from the collection of Tesco and Sainsbury’s vouchers, for students with 100% attendance. We also reward students and form groups with non uniform days.
We would like to work in partnership with parents and carers and help your child to achieve and feel supported. Please contact our Attendance Officer (Mrs Proudman) 01782 296799 in the first instance.
