Meet Rhona!

At Maryhill High School, we do our best to support many charities, not just for humans, but animals too. In the past, we have raised money to benefit dogs and cats but our students are now keen to branch out and help other animals, so we have adopted our very own cow called Rhona from the Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary based in Wolverton, Warwickshire.

Rhona lived in the field next to a group of bullocks who were at the Sanctuary. The staff learnt that she was to be sent to slaughter as she had failed to come into calf for the second time so they rescued her. She escaped within an hour of arriving at her new home and the staff discovered it was because she was searching for her 5-month old calf Ronan. This just goes to prove that animals do suffer pain when separated from their loved ones!

Fortunately, due to the hard work of the Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary, Rhona’s story has a happy ending. She was reunited with Ronan and both now live together safe and happy with the other rescued farm animals.
